HAWAII007 // Hidden Spheres – By & Bye

HAWAII007 // Hidden Spheres - By & Bye

Hidden Spheres comes drifting off of the sunset coast with four soothing slices of winter sun from far away islands and mountainous journeys.

Blending loosely played natural drum patterns with intertwining and playfully positive melodies that skirt the synth-flute boundary, ~~~~~~ is an ambiguous meander across beaches, through forests, thick undergrowth up and up onto a mountain hung with fresh mist that slowly evolves into a dense fog as the suns reign comes to a close in an orange band of fading embers.

Beachy let’s the night settle in amongst the shore, as the day creatures descend into their evening hideaways and the fireflies and owls take over. The washing of the sea hissing and gasping behind a slow chatter of reeds blowing in the wind.

Picking up where the first EP left off, By & Bye is a reprise from past days. Welcoming a new sun and embracing the slow rise of humans amidst the yellowing egg-like sun.

Then to finish us off is the jazz-flecked house of Movin’. All urgent Rhodes stabs, doodling bass lines and puttering lazy drums sketches. A low-lying, sleepily danced-away closer.

Felix Leifur – In General EP

Felix Leifur - In General EP

New kid Felix Leifur made quite a stir with his debut release on Dirt Crew last year. The Icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving Reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the “Lagaffe Tales” guys on building a new northern House empire. Since his debut he’s been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. With this EP he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from Disco through jazz and hip hop. We’re certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and we’re looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects.

Opening with “Eyelids”, Felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. “Classy” has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. Our personal favorite is the title track, “In General”, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavored bass.

The B-side begins with “Midwinter”, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. It’s deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track “Feels Like” that featured on our Deep Love compilation in 2016. Yet another highlight for us is “Apollo”, there’s not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotizing Rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place…Psychedelic beauty! He closes with “Mine”, a dope lo-fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

Carlo & Black Loops – Intermission EP

Carlo & Black Loops - Intermission EP

Carlo and Black Loops have joined forces together to release the “Intermission” EP. It’s full of catchy samples and funky soulful vibes. The release is out soon on Good Ratio Music but you can pre-order it!

An Italian-Spanish connection is always a good thing. The sort of sensual and Mediterranean emotions that Carlo and Black Loops can deliver, is a skill that has been taken far on this new EP.

The dichotomy can prove difficult to square sometimes, particularly when the guys have different paths in their sound. But the mix is rich here.

The Intermission EP is a packed full of soul samples, warm pads, and great solid beats wrapped up as a soulful declaration. Their massive love for music really shines through in this EP.

Yuki Kanesaka Vs. Nas – The World Is Yours (Kon Remix)

Boston legendary house producer Kon had recently paired up with Japanese keyboardist Yuki Kanesaka on his recent track “On My Way” on his latest LP. Yuki also has a side project called Monolog, which he jazzes up hip hop tracks to best fit his taste. Here’s a remix of one of my favorite hip hop artists Nas. Kon did a great job bringing “The World Is Yours” back to life in a way giving it a new style mixing classical piano jazz with 90’s hip hop. Grab a free copy by liking Kon’s Facebook page here.
