The Revenge – Roar Groove meets Dirt Crew Vol. 2 EP

The Revenge - Roar Groove meets Dirt Crew Vol. 2 EP

Never one to rest, our pal The Revenge has been busy as always. His latest LP as 6th Borough Project “Find Your Rhythm” recently dropped on Roar Groove, he created a beautifully delicate remix of Auntie Flo’s “Waiting for a (Woman)”, had a change of scenery relocating from Scotland to Denmark and his collab EP with Dirt Crew, flush with Nachtbraker remixes was one of our biggest records of 2016! Amongst the action he’s taken the time and a more “in yer face” approach to write us his latest EP, a four-tracker of proper club tracks.

“Every Night” brims with raucous disco energy. The “French Filter House” reminiscent gem’s strings shimmer and funk horns hit heavy, a jam destined to wear holes in shoes. “Grit” attends to the easy-going Disco grooves we love so much from The Revenge, plenty of shake and soul it’s overflowing with good mood energy.

B-side opener “Never Learn” gives us a glimpse of the darker end of The Revenge’s spectrum. Subby toms rumble, tweaked out synths bleep and slide and delayed key stabs shift the party into smoke hazed, underground rave mode. The closing track “Krokodille” brings that Bass n Electro gritty booming sound! The acidic lead wraps around sturdy drums. Straight forward with plenty of kick, what an ending to a high quality EP!

Felix Leifur – In General EP

Felix Leifur - In General EP

New kid Felix Leifur made quite a stir with his debut release on Dirt Crew last year. The Icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving Reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the “Lagaffe Tales” guys on building a new northern House empire. Since his debut he’s been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. With this EP he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from Disco through jazz and hip hop. We’re certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and we’re looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects.

Opening with “Eyelids”, Felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. “Classy” has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. Our personal favorite is the title track, “In General”, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavored bass.

The B-side begins with “Midwinter”, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. It’s deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track “Feels Like” that featured on our Deep Love compilation in 2016. Yet another highlight for us is “Apollo”, there’s not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotizing Rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place…Psychedelic beauty! He closes with “Mine”, a dope lo-fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.
