Brame & Hamo – Trants EP

Brame & Hamo - Trants EP

Straight out of Sligo, Ireland, Brame & Hamo have expertly produced some of the most effortless house music of the last few years. Following acclaimed releases on labels such as Dirt Crew and Heist, the duo now take full control with their debut release on a fresh, personal imprint, simply titled ‘Brame & Hamo’.

B&H001, ‘Trants’, is a versatile three-tracker that expertly captures the light and shade of the duo’s production pallette. Opening the EP, title-track ‘Trants’ (say it aloud to trace the inspiration), provides a hugely satisfying denouement. Awash in a retro-futurist haze, flavours of early bleep techno, dusty drums and yes, outright trance flavours provide the ingredients for a euphoria-inducing trip that culminates in a melodic call to arms-in-the-air.

Things get much tougher throughout ‘Hurt You’, which begins with an immediate strike of chunky percussion, jacking Chi-town rhythms and an unapologetically menacing organ line. As the requisite vocal sample delivers emotive threat, the mood only gets darker still, delivering something akin to an outsider house rendition of a lost Dance Mania cut.

Finally, providing a soft landing with an early-doors on-the-floor heater, ‘Clarence’ lives up to it’s ‘Smooth Mix’ subtitle, as a lounging piano line gently gives way to vibrant sax and a soothing female vocal sample, while still maintaining a precise and irresistible groove for the club.

Expanding seamlessly on their reputation as DJ’s and producers with an instinctive understanding of the genre, B&H001 is as soulful, tough and deeply satisfying of a house record as anything in Brame & Hamo’s already impressive musical repertoire. Indeed, here’s your Trants, now dance!

Grant – Perception LP

Grant - Perception LP

Grant releases his Perception LP out October 31st on his new label Duke’s Distribution – a new label without boundaries of genre and style.

First out the gate comes a double LP by the man himself. Grant’s signature deep and atmospheric grooves drip like caramel through smoke, falling lusciously over large crafted and classic, US House drums. The highs rush to move your ethereal thought while the lows move your guts.

Pressed on to two slabs of deep dark and stylish wax. Definitely NEED this!

A curious meeting was the result of an open studio door of Nachtbraker, and the hint of disco coming out the door, where Dr. San Proper just happened to pass by in search of whatever it is he searches for at 10 am on a Tuesday. The good doctor decided to walk in, greeted Nachtbraker in his ordinary weird way and casually grabbed a microphone. Nachtbraker pressed record, Dr. Proper got his inner Mick Jagger on, and behold: Misses, madame, mademoiselle was born: an up-tempo disco groove with Nachtbraker’s touch of loose arrangement, and San Proper’s amazing vocals. We asked our good friends and great producer duo Session Victim to re-interpret M.m.m. and they gave it a great dreamy-but-groovy twist, adding pads and shuffling hi-hats.

Detroit Swindle – Can’t Hold It EP

Detroit Swindle - Can't Hold It EP

“4 years after the conception of Heist Recordings with the “Break Up To Make Up” EP by label heads Detroit Swindle, they deliver their 5th solo record and release #26 for the label.”

HEIST026 | Detroit Swindle – Can’t Hold It EP will be released on July 31st.
PRE ORDER HERE NOW:

“On the “Can’t Hold It” EP, the guys showcase their love for lush disco, analogue basslines and leftfield musicians, bringing in NYC native Willie Burns for a remix that shows you the darkest side of Heist yet.
The title track and EP opener should feel like a warm welcome to those who enjoyed last year’s “Howsmusic” so much: warm subs, galloping hi-hats and an exotic synth loop that’ll get stuck in your head for hours and hours.
“Just not Norma” goes on in a similar manner, this time built around a few simple but effective keys chops and the lovely solo work of Mark de Clive-Lowe, adding a dash of emotional P-funk to the groove.
The B-side takes a jump into more electronic territory with both versions of “Tamarindus hollandicus”. The original evolves around a bell- like percussion loop and a roaring Moog bass, with synth, strings and piano loops exchanging their spot on center stage. Willie Burns gets all dark and trippy on his excursion into electro territory. Machinegun-like claps and haunting strings accompany the breakbeat-not-breakbeat and ruthless bassline to give the EP a thrilling finale.
These 4 tracks show you a wide variation of dancefloor moods and hopefully will make you fist pump, strip, get down, jump, scream or do whatever it is you do when you’re releasing your energy at a party.

Yours Sincerely, Maarten & Lars.”

The Revenge – Roar Groove meets Dirt Crew Vol. 2 EP

The Revenge - Roar Groove meets Dirt Crew Vol. 2 EP

Photo taken by Gordon Burniston

Never one to rest, our pal The Revenge has been busy as always. His latest LP as 6th Borough Project “Find Your Rhythm” recently dropped on Roar Groove, he created a beautifully delicate remix of Auntie Flo’s “Waiting for a (Woman)”, had a change of scenery relocating from Scotland to Denmark and his collab EP with Dirt Crew, flush with Nachtbraker remixes was one of our biggest records of 2016! Amongst the action he’s taken the time and a more “in yer face” approach to write us his latest EP, a four-tracker of proper club tracks.

“Every Night” brims with raucous disco energy. The “French Filter House” reminiscent gem’s strings shimmer and funk horns hit heavy, a jam destined to wear holes in shoes. “Grit” attends to the easy-going Disco grooves we love so much from The Revenge, plenty of shake and soul it’s overflowing with good mood energy.

B-side opener “Never Learn” gives us a glimpse of the darker end of The Revenge’s spectrum. Subby toms rumble, tweaked out synths bleep and slide and delayed key stabs shift the party into smoke hazed, underground rave mode. The closing track “Krokodille” brings that Bass n Electro gritty booming sound! The acidic lead wraps around sturdy drums. Straight forward with plenty of kick, what an ending to a high quality EP!

HAWAII007 // Hidden Spheres – By & Bye

HAWAII007 // Hidden Spheres - By & Bye

Hidden Spheres comes drifting off of the sunset coast with four soothing slices of winter sun from far away islands and mountainous journeys.

Blending loosely played natural drum patterns with intertwining and playfully positive melodies that skirt the synth-flute boundary, ~~~~~~ is an ambiguous meander across beaches, through forests, thick undergrowth up and up onto a mountain hung with fresh mist that slowly evolves into a dense fog as the suns reign comes to a close in an orange band of fading embers.

Beachy let’s the night settle in amongst the shore, as the day creatures descend into their evening hideaways and the fireflies and owls take over. The washing of the sea hissing and gasping behind a slow chatter of reeds blowing in the wind.

Picking up where the first EP left off, By & Bye is a reprise from past days. Welcoming a new sun and embracing the slow rise of humans amidst the yellowing egg-like sun.

Then to finish us off is the jazz-flecked house of Movin’. All urgent Rhodes stabs, doodling bass lines and puttering lazy drums sketches. A low-lying, sleepily danced-away closer.
